Duba is the camp Dereck and Beverly Joubert chose as their own base, and it is easy to see why. The concession is a patchwork of palm islands and flooded grassland where lions have learned to hunt buffalo through the channels, and big lechwe herds move across the plains around camp.
With five suites it never feels busy. Each one has its own pool, a bath and indoor and outdoor showers, and there is a professional camera and lenses in every room for you to borrow, with your pictures downloaded to take home. Activities cover open-vehicle drives, guided walks, mokoro and boats, water levels permitting.
It is a place for people who will happily sit with one pride for a whole morning. Drinks including champagne and premium spirits are in the rate, as are shared-seat flights from Maun or Kasane on stays of two nights or more. Families who want privacy should look at the separate two-bedroom Duba Plains Suite, which comes with its own vehicle, guide and chef.
